Something not on your resume:
|
I have a lot of random job skills. I have worked in: a Subway restaurant, a dive Motel, an old-fashioned photo store in a ghost-town, a deli, an LDS church, a bakery, a movie theatre, a fancy restaurant, and an Admissions Office. If you want me to make you a sandwich, clean a bathtub, dress you like a Victorian housewife, hand over the recipe for snicker-bar salad, explain Mormon culture, scoop some popcorn, recite the main ingredients for Mediterranean cuisine, or answer your questions about DePaul… I’m your girl. |

Lucy Hoffman Area of Study: Acting (BFA)
|
I chose to attend The Theatre School at DePaul University because… I knew I wanted a conservatory setting, and also I loved the audition process for this school! I had a lot of fun. I found the auditions at some schools to be excessively intimidating. Plus I love Chicago!
I chose my major because… I love the study of humanity. At The Theatre School we get to study the nuances of human emotion/interaction without the rigidity of a text book. Though it can be very exhausting and it takes constant, genuine effort, it is the most fulfilling, exciting area of study I could have chosen.
A faculty or staff member that has greatly influenced me is… Rachel Slavick. Rachel is an adjunct faculty member. I was taught by her in my first year of the program and she was extremely dedicated and attentive to the progress/needs of each student. I was also directed by her in a second year Introduction to Performance production, and she pushed me to find a vulnerability and truthfulness in my work.
Something that surprised me about my experience or curriculum here is… the unending talent of the faculty, staff, and my peers! Everyone is incredibly gifted in their own particular area of study.
One thing that I’d like to say to students considering attending The Theatre School, or my peers in the industry, is…… You will not find a more intensive, in-depth undergrad theatre program.
My future goals include… Auditioning at every opportunity, and taking things as they come.
