New Playrights Series presents:

IN COMMON HOURS by Andie Arthur

WHO:

The Theatre School at DePaul University , New Playwrights Series

WHAT:

IN COMMON HOURS , by Andie Arthur, directed by Theatre School faculty member Carlos Murillo

Love. Death. War. Sex. The life of Louisa May Alcott is a far darker place than Little Women . Set at the start of the Civil War in the early 1860s, IN COMMON HOURS explores the life of Louisa before she became the loveable Aunt Jo, years before she wrote Little Women . The play follows Louisa's quest to find her own identity — through her struggles with unrequited love, writing and family.

IN COMMON HOURS is a part of The Theatre School's New Playwrights Series,
which is an annual presentation of a new play by a current Theatre School student or recent graduate.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT:

Andie Arthur is a 4th year student in the Playwriting Program at The Theatre
School. She started writing plays at a very early age; when she was in elementary school her short play Snoring Beauty was produced at the Phoenix Theatre Young Playwrights Festival. In November 1999, the Fort Hayes Black Box Theatre Company produced her first full-length play, The Light of Many Distant Suns, starting an annual tradition of student-written new works. At The Theatre School, she developed IN COMMON HOURS as well as various short plays including Paradox Lost. She is currently working on a dark, mythological play about a family after the disappearance of the youngest child.
