Check listings in your area. CHARLES ABBOTT (BFA, Acting, ‘61) is directing Elegy, produced by DENNIS GRIMALDI (BFA, Acting, ’68) this coming January at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. The play was written by RON HIRSEN (Staff). AARON ABRAMS (BFA, Acting, ’01) has returned to his native Canada since graduating and since then has become a regular on a show called Game Attics (he plays Curtis Griffin), and appeared in the film Hack Kerouac. GREG ALCOCK (BFA, Theatre Studies, ’01) is the Education and Groups Associate at Chicago Shakespeare theatre. NARDA ALCORN (BFA, Production Management, '92) is the assistant stage manager for The Lion King on Broadway, New Amsterdam theatre, 214 West 42 nd Street, 212/307-4747 or 800/755-4000 (outside NY, NJ, CT), or http://www.ticketmaster.com . Open run. She is taking five weeks off to SM a production of Jitney at the National Theatre in London. TOM ALDREDGE (Acting, GSD) has a recurring role as Hugh DeAngelis (Carmella’s father) on The Sopranos, Sundays, HBO, 8PM. KAREN ALDRIDGE (MFA, Acting, ’01) is in Paris at the moment and will be playing Matilde, the female lead, in LeCostume, an adaptation of the short story written by Can Thimbe, directed by Peter Brook. The show is touring now through February 2002 in Ireland, England and Spain. WYNN DEE (TURBERVILLE) ALLEN (BFA, Theatre Studies, ’93) lives in Montgomery, AL with her husband and recently took a new position as a staff attorney for the United States Courts - Middle District of Alabama. She works on prisoner civil rights cases. GILLIAN ANDERSON (BFA, Acting, '90) plays FBI Agent Dana Scully on The X-Files, Sundays, FOX, 8PM. This is the show’s ninth season. KEVIN ANDERSON (Cert, Acting, ’81) will play Frank Gifford in the TNT film Monday Night Mayhem, air date not yet set. Co-stars include John Turturo as Howard Cosell, Patti LuPone as Emmy Cosell, Brad Beyer as Don Meredith, Eli Wallach as Leonard Goldenson and ZAK ORTH (BFA, Acting, ’92) as Don Ohlmeyer. JEFF BRUCKERHOFF (BFA, Lighting Design, ’94) is the lighting director for a northeast U.S. ballet tour of The Suzanne Farrell Ballet Company, produced by the Kennedy Center. Then Jeff will return to the Santa Fe Opera to design the lighting for H. M. S. Pinafore, opening 11/23/01. Next summer he’ll return to the Santa Fe Opera as the lighting director and will be going to Japan for two weeks with a production of Sly for the Washington Opera. DEXTER BULLARD (Faculty) is the Artistic Director of Plasticene, which recently announced its season. THOM BUMBLAUKAS (BFA, Scene Design, ’92) is designing the scenery for Marriage of Figaro at the Curtis Institute of Music, Rittenhouse Square, Center City Philadelphia, PA. MARTIN CLARK (TIPPENS) (Directing program, ‘55-’56) plays Dr. George Junkin (father of Stonewall Jackson and once president of Washington University) in the TNT production of Gods and Generals, the second of a three part trilogy (Gettysburgh, G&G, and The Last Full Measure), which will be a feature film to be released in 2002. Filming was in Lexington, VA. Back home, he continues his activities with the Los Angeles Classical Theatre Lab. KELLY COFFIELD (MFA, Acting, ’87) can be seen in the recurring role of Naomi on Once and Again with Sela Ward, Fridays, ABC, 9PM. BENJAMIN COHEN (BFA, Theatre Technology, '98) will be getting married on 10/27/01 in Chicago. JOHN CULBERT (Dean) is featured in an article in the Spring/Summer 2001 issue of DePaul Academic Affairs Quarterly on his being appointed dean of The Theatre School. DENNIS GRIMALDI (BFA, Acting, ’68) is developing and producing a new Broadway musical comedy for Tony Award winner Chita Rivera. He is currently working on adapting another Caldecott Prize winning children’s book, Sector 7, for Paramount Pictures, and finishing up his latest play Semasiology. DANICA IVANCEVIC (BFA, Acting, ’94) was one of the artists who created “The History of Chicago” entry in the Suite Home Chicago displays through 10/13/01. Suite Home Chicago is a collection of over 300 fiberglass artistic renderings of furniture at various locations in the greater downtown Chicago area. “The History of Chicago” is a chronicle of theatre in Chicago, featuring a collage of head shots, photos, posters and play programs from the last 40 years. One side of the sofa has been turned into a replica of a 1920’s box office complete with working lights, while the other side has become a miniature dressing room. You can see “The History of Chicago” in front of the Ford Center/Oriental Theatre on Randolph just west of State Street. GRANT JAMES (BFA, Acting, ’62) will be a regular voice for the cartoon series Soul Hunter which is still in production. GENE JANSON (BFA, Acting, ’58) serves on the Artistic Board for the Apple Tree theatre in Highland Park, IL. DORCAS JOHNSON (MFA, Acting, ’94) is on the East Coast Committee of the Alumni Board and produces the East Coast Alumni E*Letter. on 9/29/01. To the best of our knowledge, no Goodman/Theatre School alumni were lost in the tragic events of 9/11/01. However, KAREN MAUDE (BFA, Theatre Studies, ’94) lost her father, Lieutenant General Timothy J. Maude, whose office was at the point of impact where the hijacked American Airlines plane hit the Pentagon. A funeral was held for him in Ft. Myers, FL on 10/6/01. At the time of his death Karen’s dad was a three star general in charge of personnel for the Army, he was the highest-ranking soldier killed that day. He was active in the "Army of One" campaign and spent his life taking care of soldiers. A memorial fund has been set up in his name which will be used to help soldiers continue their education and to become officers. The Theatre School currently has a student population of 315. 155 (49%) are Performance (Acting or Directing) majors, 83 (26%) are Theatre Studies majors, and 77 (24%) are Design/Technical majors. TIM BRAULT (Staff) is our Technical Director, and he is leaving us at the end of the month after being a member of our community since 1987. He will become the Technical Director at the Chicago Shakespeare theatre. The dorm is planned to be 18 stories high and will be located at State and Congress. The Daley administration had previously rejected DePaul’s plan to build an academic center at the site. The land is estimated at a value of 5 million dollars, and is being sold to the university partnership for $1. The dormitory will house approximately 1800 students from the three schools. Rents in the new dorm will range from $650 a month for two students in a room with and adjacent bathroom shared by four to $850 for a private bedroom in a 4 room suite with two bathrooms and a shared living room and kitchen. MORE THAN A FEWHere are some activities that involve “more than a few” Goodman/Theatre School folks: On Friday, 9/14/01, we were very proud to host a visit from some Goodman alums from the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. Close to 50 alumni were expected, but because of the tragic events on 9/11/01, many from the coasts could not fly in for the gathering. Alumni came to the school, viewed some Goodman memorabilia on display from DePaul’s Richardson Library’s Special Collections Department, took tours of the school, shared a lunch with some Theatre School students, faculty and staff, bussed down to the old Goodman Theatre afterwards to have a photo taken, and then took a tour of our Merle Reskin Theatre.
