The Theatre School supports numerous programs, organizations, and events which enhance the core activities of classes and productions. There is always something going on, but here are some of the highlights:
The Annual Awards for Excellence in the Arts is a yearly gala fundraising event for The Theatre School Scholarship Fund. These awards recognize civic and corporate leadership in the arts, along with alumni excellence in the arts, and artistic leadership within the industry.
Chicago Live: The Arts is a hosted public discussion series that features distinguished professionals from all aspects of the entertainment industry. These special guests join The Theatre School in the lobby for a Q&A with students, faculty, staff, and other attendees.
Graduating students are introduced to the profession and area alumni at end-of-year Graduate Showcases in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.
For over 15 years, the Wrights of Spring festival has featured the work of playwriting students from all levels of the program. During this 3-week celebration programming ranges from staged reading to supported studio productions.
The school contributes to increasing the canon of American children’s plays through the Cunningham Commission for Youth Theatre.
Several student organizations dedicate themselves to causes such as representative government (Student Government Association), mentoring (The G.O.D. Squad), and fundraising for Graduate Showcase (The Theatre School ST*RS).
