Here at The Theatre School we have an old student/new student mentor program, known affectionately as “The G.O.D. Squad” - the Goodman Orientation Detail. This was the first student-mentor program at DePaul University. It is named the Goodman Orientation Detail as a reference to the Theatre School's old title — The Goodman School of Drama — before it became a part of DePaul University in 1978.

All incoming students (undergraduate and graduate) are assigned to a 2nd, 3rd or 4 th-year Theatre School student. In June or July before the Fall quarter, both sets of students are notified and can begin talking back and forth.

This program came about when students and faculty at The Theatre School realized that — unlike at most of the rest of DePaul University — students at The Theatre School come mostly from outside the Chicago area. From the notion that it can be helpful and important to establish links before coming to a new city for possibly the first time, The G.O.D. Squad was born.

Incoming students have the privilege of asking their G.O.D. Parents any questions about DePaul, The Theatre School, Chicago, or anything else they'd like to know before coming to college. The G.O.D. Squad has been a great success, and a Theatre School tradition for more than 20 years.
